Website of Mike and Robin Henne

Welcome...

Welcome to our website!  This site was created by Mike and Robin Henne in September 2005; it serves as an information repository for our friends and family, so that they can keep track of the new developments in our lives as we move from Texas to the UK.  Mike is beginning his graduate education at the University of Cambridge's Laboratory of Molecular Biology (MRC LMB), where he's studying for a PhD in Molecular Biology.  We're both very excited about this new chapter in our lives!

Please check-in to this site on occassion, as we will update regularly with photos, stories, and fun facts focusing on the American experience at Cambridge!

As we settle in...

We're beginning to understand how special this university-city is!  Mike's laboratory experience is great; he's learning many new things and enjoying it!  Robin and Mike are also enjoying their weekend adventures across the British Isles!  Check the News page for updates on what they're doing...and where!

A Brief History of the Hennes

Mike & Robin both hail from Allen, Texas (a suburb of Dallas).  They met in 9th grade, and after 7 years of steady dating, married on December 30th 2004.

They attended Allen High School, and graduated Valedictorian and Salutatorian of their class in 2001.  They subsequently enrolled at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas from 2001 to 2005.  Majoring in Biology (Robin) and Cellular & Molecular Biology (Mike), they became deeply involved with undergraduate research, becoming Fellows in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Undergraduate Research Program for almost five years.  Mike specialized in neurobiology, focusing on neurodegenerative diseases of the mammalian brain, specifically those induced by excitotoxicity (a phenomenon common to seizures).  Robin, after two years of research in Microbiology studying the molecular biology of multi-drug resistant bacteria, choose to continue her HHMI experience as a Science Education Fellow (SEF).  As a SEF, she had the opportunity to work with local secondary education schools, designing teaching curricula and tools, and participating in science education programs.

They both graduated Texas Tech with their B.S. degrees in the Spring of 2005, and were pleased to learn that Mike had been accepted to a PhD program at the University of Cambridge.  They are now planning their move to the UK, arriving there at the end of September for the Michaelmas Term at Cambridge.
